1.6.2014 Monday Musing - Live A Life

I have decided that 2014 is all about living a happy and healthy life. I have been searching for a motto to fit my goals and I believe I have stumbled across one. After reading this quote a hundred times through Pinterest or Tumblr, I decided to fact check to see who really came up with the perfect motto for me, and to my surprise, it wasn’t F. Scott Fitzgerald. The quote is actually from the screenplay for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button that was written by Eric Roth – mind blown. I think it’s crazy how the internet can see one thing and run with it… Anyways, isn’t this motto perfect? I really want to believe that you can create the life that you want and why can’t you? So if you find yourself unhappy or unsatisfied, take a step back, breathe and try something new. Do something for yourself; even if it is a small something like shutting off the television, calling a friend you haven’t spoken to in awhile, taking a short walk around the block, and remember that you have the power to choose a life that you want. Happy Monday! Make this week awesome. Xo.

2014 GoalsCan you believe that it’s already 2014? I know people say that as you get older time seems to fly by quicker, and I finally believe them. Last year was rough for me The last few years have been a bit rough and I have decided that no matter what, this year will be all about creating my own happiness. I don’t want to say they are resolutions because I want them to be ongoing, forever. So cheers to 2014 and having a fun and productive year! Xo.

Thursday Thoughts

I have talked before about how it is taking me forever to get through school but this week marks one more semester off my list. I now have 4 more semesters to go and I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel.

This semester was one of the busiest semesters I have had with my internship, weddings galore, regular work and school and it was one of the best ones I have ever had. I was able to keep my head above water (most of the time) and focus on what was happening in present time instead of worrying too much about the future.

I tend to get so caught up with where I “should” be in life that I forget about being proud of where I actually am. I know I have friends that are well ahead of me in the process of life but that doesn’t mean that I am not exactly where I should be now. It took me a long while to realize that I should not compare my life to anyone else’s or not to judge myself if I don’t get an A on my project. There are times where I feel like I care too much and other times where I don’t care enough… And that’s okay.

Monday Musings

12.2.13_MM_Just let it go

We all know the saying… “Just let it go.”

Does anyone actually know where that came from? Or is it just a phrase that people say when they aren’t the ones who are actually dealing with ‘it?’
I have super high anxiety. If things don’t go the way I planned them to go, it can sometimes be hard for me to think quickly and reanalyze the situation. I believe that I have gotten much better than I have in the past but sometimes I just need to walk away.

The holidays are a prime time for my anxiety to kick into high gear. I make lists upon lists that are there to help me prepare for anything that can go wrong but there are things you just can’t predict.

Thanksgiving dinner went off without a hitch, I was actually so proud of myself. It was a comment someone had made after dinner that I had not prepared for that threw me off my game. A question was asked and when I answered, they said a very judgmental comment that made me defensive and upset. My anxiety was in high gear. I just said that I did not want to talk about it any further and moved on from the situation. Everyone seemed to have moved on but I could not get the comment out of my head. I did the dishes, cleaned the kitchen, raked the driveway and finally realized I just needed to let it go.

It’s exhausting to be mad. There are only so many things you can be prepared for and at the end of the day if you don’t let some of those things go, you’ll deplete yourself. Taking time out for myself to think about the situation and realize that it wasn’t worth it, helped me let the comment go. Sometimes it’s not so easy… What are your tips and tricks for ‘Just letting things go?’

Thanksgiving Cards

11.23.13 Thanksgiving Card 4
I love all holidays but Thanksgiving is one of my favorites. I am going to be away from more than a few friends and family and I wanted to let them know how thankful I am to have them in my life so why not make some Thanksgiving cards?? I made these all for under $3. I already had the paper and glue so all I had to do was purchase some fun stickers… What is possibly more fun than turkeys with googly eyes?! I say nearly nothing… So turkeys with googly eyes it was. Zachary and I had a friend over for dinner and while they watched ESPN, I got my craft on. It was definitely a successful night… Here are the steps I took to make my Thanksgiving cards.

1. Grab all the ingredients. I needed a paper cutter, envelopes, craft paper, glue (not pictured), ruler and pencil… I wanted to use some string but ended up not liking the vibe so I stuck to just the fun turkey stickers.

2. Measure the size of your envelopes and cut the size of your paper about a half inch shorter than that. My envelopes were 5.95 inches so I cut my paper to 5.5.

3. I also cut smaller pieces of different color paper and then glued that paper to my original…

4. Next… Add stickers….

I also did a green and light brown to mix it up a bit from the “normal” thanksgiving colors… I think I ended up liking this one the best. I sent it to Zachary’s mom and dad who just happen to love the color green.

Have I mentioned how I excited I am for Thanksgiving? Hehe. Xo.

Anyone who knows me, knows I am definitely a little over obsessed with J. Crew. The truth is that even though I can’t afford it all the time (they do have amazing sales from time to time) I am always looking at their website or style guide to get inspiration for any sort of outfit. This Thanksgiving I am scrapping the traditional holiday dress and going for a pants/sweater combo since I know that no matter how much I plan ahead, there will always be something to throw you off at the last minute. These outfits from J. Crew make me swoon and I am hoping to recreate something a little like them.
