My favorite boots.

I bought these J. Crew boots over summer while they were on clearance, and then, half off of that… I scored. It was one of my proudest shopping moments. I could not wait to wear them this fall and finally, the day came. Although it only rained this morning, I could not wait to strut around in these while running errands. They will definitely be a staple this fall… I am obsessed with the hunter green and a major plus? It matches the majority of my closet. I am excited to pair them with tights and dresses for a bit of a dressed up feel.

Fall.

It is officially starting to feel like fall! I cannot contain my excitement for the changing of the seasons. I love everything about fall… the beautiful colors, the sports that take place, boots, scarves, the many different aroma’s, and the rain. Yes, I am one who loves rain.

This season, though, always seems to fly by and this year there are a few things I am determined to do.

1. Take a visit to Apple Hill.

2. Go wine tasting (vineyards in the fall are absolutely breathtaking).

3. Roast marshmallows with our fireplace.

4. Jump in rain puddles.

5. Clean out my closet (it’s getting a bit gory).

6. Host a ladies Thanksgiving.

7. Go to a football game (NFL or college).

8. Bake a pie (preferably this or this).

9. Frame new pictures – I have pictures hanging from three years ago. Yikes.

10. Make candles.

little gold table

The home my boyfriend and I share is a little small but perfect for the two of us. Our living room is mainly neutral colors and is the first thing you see when you enter into the house. I came home one day (a long time ago) and was bored with how it was looking. We are on a strict budget and since we had just bought new couches, the last thing I could do was go out and buy more new furniture. So, the alternative – buy a can of spray paint.

Gold has been my latest color crush and seemed to fit the neutral theme while still adding a bit of pop… This table is the first thing I have ever spray painted and although I would do a few things differently, I am so pleased with how it turned out!

THE table. I seriously can’t believe I let it sit in my house for as long as it did without a coat of paint. My boyfriend has also just informed me that he has had this table since he can remember… It was in his first bedroom and has moved into every house with him since.

Me: “What?!? That’s so cute! And you just let me paint it whatever I wanted?”

Him: “I don’t think I really had a choice.”

Me: Pondering… “You’re probably right.”

Luckily, I already had primer laying around from a different project the boyfriend and I had done previously. If you are painting anything a lighter color than what it was before, I highly recommend using primer.

Finished. I definitely need to practice with a spray can a little bit more… The paint isn’t exactly even but for my first spray paint project, I’m happy.

The good thing is, if you look at it quickly, you would never know… But seriously, I LOVE it – imperfections and all.

Although I am far away from my graduation date, I’m already freaking out about finding my “perfect” job. I’ve heard from a number of friends and family about finding an internship first, but why?

Why should I get an internship?

An internship is, “Any official or formal program to provide practical experience for beginners in an occupation or profession,” according to Random House Dictionary. Internships are a way to learn how things actually operate in real life scenarios; it’s also a great way to find out if you will enjoy the job you are interested in or maybe try something you hadn’t thought about. A friend of mine was one year away from graduating with her Journalism degree and was on the hunt for an internship to plump up her resume. She had already done one for the local news station the summer before and wanted to try something new, public relations. She applied and got the internship at a local PR firm and fell in love.  The summary of this story is that she now has a job she enjoys for a PR company right after college because of something she “tried.”

CNN.com reported Melissa Benca, director of career services at Marymount Manhattan College in New York City, saying, “Internships have become key in today’s economy. Graduating students with paid or unpaid internships on their résumé have a much better chance at landing a full-time position upon graduation. Students are doing internships as undergraduates, and it is now not unusual for recent grads to take an unpaid internship with hopes of turning it into a permanent position or at least making some contacts and building their résumé.”

I’m not saying, you’re not going to get a job without an internship, but it definitely wouldn’t hurt. If you don’t believe me check out what Katharine Hansen, Ph. D, from Quintessential Careers has to say about it (CLICK HERE).

gray and gold

I fell in love with Emily’s monochromatic look the first time I saw it. I have been wanting to recreate something similar ever since. I love gray and gold; they’re contrasting but suitable for each other (at least in my opinion). I found that little bow pin at the Antique Fair a few months back and can’t wear it enough… I mean, hello, bows and vintage… Yes, please!

Seriously, where is fall?

This past weekend, a few friends and the boyfriend packed up the car and headed north to Anderson Valley. We planned the trip thinking it would be cooler this time of year and oh boy, were we wrong; way wrong. Note to self: ALWAYS check the weather report for 100 degree heat at the end of September. Needless to say, the boots were unnecessary but I hadn’t packed any other appropriate shoe and there aren’t many shops in the area. It still was pretty great though; the wineries were air conditioned and the best friend and I ended with an impromptu dance party in the middle of the vineyard. Perfection.

I know fall technically began on September 22nd but, for me, it begins in October (even when it’s almost 100 degrees out).

I LOVE fall… It is, quite frankly, my favorite time of year. I cannot wait for coats, scarves, boots and fun fall finds that will keep me bundled up until spring. Although this year it will be a little different…

As a struggling college student, the latest fashion trend can sometimes take a backseat to buying books (um, duh) even if I am gawking over the newest j. crew ads. So, I have decided that October will be a “no-spend on fashion” month. Honestly, it’s going to suck. I am banking (no pun intended) on the rewarding feeling I will have at the end of the month when my bank account looks a little fuller.

I also think this is a great way to find older pieces in my closet that I can make new. It is going to be challenging, fun experience and I am pretty excited. Stay tuned to see if I can do it!
